All four Shamrock Rovers teams find themselves at the right end of the table at the halfway mark of the 2010 season. The first team are undefeated in the league and are one game clear in the Amateur Premier League with the reserves two points clear and only tasting defeat once thus far.The third team have exceeded expectation by achieving a winning run of six straight games resulting in them charging up the table into fourth place. Not to be outdone the Masters of the club are challenging for a title also and sit in 4th place, eagerly waiting to play the sides above them in an attempt to erase the six point deficit.
Unfortunately Hamersley Rovers won three out of four cup ties against Shamrock Rovers on the 30th of May resulting in the Reserve team being the only side left in the cup. This was a significant achievement for Hamersley Rovers as not too many clubs can claim to beat Shamrock Rovers three out of four times in the same day. However coaches Paul McCue, Tony Campbell and Tommy Dolan can now solely focus on winning their leagues. The Reserves will face MurdochUniversity in the third round of the cup at home on June 27th at 12.30pm.
On the social side of things the club will be holding its annual quiz night in order to raise funds in 2010.The occasion will be a Friday night (after the World Cup) at the clubhouse in Victoria Park.Tickets will be $10 a head and we are asking for all players, members, supporters and friends to support the club by attending or contacting the club if they can donate prizes.
In recognition of the clubs 27th year in amateur football the club has agreed to select “The Greatest Shamrock Rovers Team”.This is sure to be of interest to anybody involved in the club over the past 27 years. In order to select this team the club has put in place a panel of people who have been involved within the club for the majority of its 27 years. The selection process has already begun and is an incredibly tough task to narrow the thousand or so players who have donned the hoops of Shamrock Rovers into a final 16. The team will be announced at the end of season presentation night in October.
As always we invite anybody who is interested in watching and supporting the Hoops to come down on Sundays at Harold Rossiter Reserve in East Vic Park (Kent Street). Bar and canteen facilities are available as well as playgrounds for the kids. For fixtures check out the "Results and Fixtures" tab.
